or does it seem like whenever there's news of the loss of a loved one, the next day is cloudy and grey? I noticed this on several occasions

I have not noticed that. The gray cloudy times are the happy times of my life.

Well my Grandpa just passed away last week.... it rained at the funeral.
But when my husband's Grandpa passed last fall it was bright and sunny...

It does apear to be that way...maybe metaphorically, too. And if it were sunny, I doubt you'd go out anyway.
