in my opinion, outdoor tanning lotions are not worth anything...i use lotions formulated for indoor tanning bed use, even when i tan outside...these lotions are 100x better than that other stuff!!!

it's sort of both..
it works good because the oil reflects the sun giving you a faster, easier tan.
but then again it's not as amazing as some brands make it out to be.. you won't get a 4 shades darker tan than you would without it..
*hope this helps*

it works. but you need to make sure it has some protector over uv rays...tanning oil is for those wanting to reach darker fast so they use it and go sit in the sun for hours..
I say only go in the sun 1 or 2 hours, if sunbathing turn every 15 minutes to help cool off one side...
use it wisely if getting it....

I like to use it when I am out in the sun; but definitely not in the tanning bed. My fave is Hawaiian Tropic that you can get at Wal Mart.

it depends on the oil
if you want it to work, look for a brand with a lot of bronzers. the more bronzers, the darker you will get. it will still take time, though. if there are no bronzers, it may not work.
