HERE IS THE ARTICLE for this question: "It is my argument that, beneath our very noses, George Bush and his administration are using time-tested tactics to close down an open society.

t is time for us to be willing to think the unthinkable -- as the author and political journalist Joe Conason has put it -- that it can happen here. And that we are further along than we realize.

Conason eloquently warns of the danger of American authoritarianism. I am arguing that we need also to look at the lessons of European and other kinds of fascism to understand the potential seriousness of the events we see unfolding in the United States." They say the strategy is leading to the End of America.

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!

I would add, that many of the conservative members of the YA community, are supporters of this Fascism. Whether or not they acknowledge this, or understand it, is immaterial. Because so many young impressionable minds who have little or no real education with respect to history and government, may be influenced by the outlandish comments and claims of people like RLP, for example; it is imperative that her nonsense and the ignorant who agree with her, be struck down with facts and well supported arguments at every turn.

This battle against Fascism must be fought everywhere, including here. They may say we don't have a sense of humor, and that they are "only joking" but there is nothing funny about dismissing entire groups of people as "the enemy" as they so often do.

The solution, is most cases, is NOT reporting them and having their lies removed. The solution is to confront their lies and Fascism with cold hard facts and intelligent analysis.

The only way to defeat Fascism is through education, education and more education, not silence.

I would rather call myself a conservative than a republican. But as far as having someone tell me that I need to leave my beloved America because I don't like Obama is like saying if I am not ready to convert to Communism I am not a true American. Are you just a little gummy in the think tank? When I see our elected officials take the oath of office and say that they swore to defend the Constitution then go to work trying to find ways of amending it to fit their secular progressive agenda you can bet it is not the conservatives or those who truly believe in the Constitution that should be packing their bags. It is really time for all of our American citizens no matter what their political affiliation to start pulling together and defending America. We have a new president he too should be supported. He is the one that we have elected as our President and Commander and Chief. There are some of us who believe that he needs to change the way he is leading our great nation but as long as he is president and continues to show pride for the office that he holds and protects us he should be given the chance to complete his term. We can start cleaning house in 2010 and take care of any left over garbage 2012. If necessary by 2012, if we find that the writer of this question has not decided to become a true American I am sure that we can pull together and get him that one way ticket out of the country that he is so desirously seeking.

Any serious student of German and American history should be able to discern the many parallels between events in Germany in 1933 and in America since 2000.

It started in each case with an indecisive election, then there was a mmajor incident which led to political clampdown and marginalization of internal opposition (Reichstag Fire/Sept 11 and the Ermachtigungsgesetz/PATRIOT ACT). Secret prisons and "justifiable" military measures came next (Dachau/Guantanamo and the Rheinland, Saarland/Afghanistan interventions), followed soon by less justifiable military moves (Austria and the Sudetenland/Iraq).

Iran will be our Poland, and I sure hope we don''t let it come to that.

I find it almost impossible that someone that knows how to use a computer actually takes the words of an obviously agenda driven reporter to heart.

Where is that open mindedness you liberals always talk about having?
