my 50cc Motofino motorscooter hesitates after closing throttle and reopening after a minute or two only. Seems an obvious carb problem, but no help from distributpor except replace the entire carb. Are there other things i could check first?

thanks, jaime

Some carbs have a pump in the first stage of carburation which inject raw gas into the carb to eliminate the hesitation. These can usually be replaced easily. It is uaually located at the top of the carb.

The problem is with the slow jet. Either it is too small for the throttle opening or it is blocked. The other possibility is the float height which is too low. Using a larger slow jet should help the problem. Did you by change change the air filter to another brand, since this can also cause the problem with the air fuel mixture.

Check the air cleaner. 50cc scooters never run properly with a dirty air cleaner.
Put the scooter on the center stand and rev it. Does it still hesitate? If no, could be low cylinder compression, or even a clogged muffler if it's a 2 stroke engine. If yes, I'd check out the carb.
