i am doing a science fair project and i cant figure this out, it isn't in any books or on any websites

My common sense tells me because it can be moved a grain at a time also it will not burn, in case of a grass fire, and it dries out quickly after a rain.

Because 2x4's are too large to fit in their little ant holes.

because Im pretty sure they cant go to the lumber yard and ask for other materials... they pretty much have to go with what they have.
