Perhaps because we are all so vain and have all felt ugly and unattractive at sometime.
Thats why we can then appreciate ugly creatures and that their beauty is within.
We hope that maybe people would look at us and see our true beauty.
just a thought

Man you really have a problem with cartoon monsters don't you? The reason we don't care how ugly a cartoon is, is because it's a CARTOON. And people are real. it's pretty simple.

Just another symptom of the emotional plague that has afflicted society, especially in the western world. For more information, see Wilhelm Reich's work if you can...remember, it wasn't just the Nazi's that burnt books, the good ole US of A(holes) did their fair share as well! They are also not averse to experimenting on their own citizens, at least the Nazi's used inferior (in their eyes at least) races for their medical experiments. Oh the Hypocrisy...Oh the humanity!!!! Land of the freaks and the home of the knaves.

Are you talking about characters like Shrek? If so , just remember they are only that. Characters made up in someone's mind and put on the screen. They are not real.
People in general are vain. It is part and parcel of the human condition. We are not perfect.

we don't glorify them, but we put them in so we can feel better about ourselves. it is also a vanity thing. if you have an ugly "creature" and a not-so-pretty actress, it makes her (and everyone else) seem beautiful! as for the vanity when we look at other people, it is just us trying to feel good about ourselves in our own insecurity and condemning others privately about faults that we share.
