Don't listen to the person above me - that'll just confuse you. (The long answer about "triggers"). I suggest you go and but a book about website building, and check out a few tutorial websites.

You need to learn basic HTML if you want to be able to make a website completely from scratch (all you need is a text editor like notepad).

Or you could use a special HTML editor that writes all the code for you. You just arrange the page how you like and it sorts out all the tricky stuff. A good one for macs is Nvu ( http://www.nvu.com ). It's a free download. You can also buy programs such as DreamWeaver and GoLive, but they can be very expensive.

Here's some tutorial websites to check out -

Good luck!

There are many different ways you could go so a quick guide maybe isn't possible based on what you asked.

You could make a blog http://www.wordpress.com http://www.blogger.com etc

You could make a social site at bebo, myspace, ning etc

You could make an html site yahoo, google probably your is gives you webspace etc

then there is webhosting allowing you to use any web softare you want.

Really what you would need to provide is more information on what you want to achieve

To generate the HTML code you need without having to learn that language, download (free) Mozilla Seamonkey. Input your text and graphics and it will generate the code for you. Save and upload!
