American Public Education...it's horrible to say but public schooling in America is a joke. I'm American so I know this. We also don't get taught any geography really. Ask Americans to tell you where european or african countries are...They may know Egypt, but that's about it for a majority of them...We are taught more math and science than english here. I don't even think that I had to take an english class in the 12th grade but I ended up taking calculus instead. It's horrible that we say we speak english, but can't write it...For some though, it's just the use of slang terms (ex. What's up? wassup?) I guess that until you get into the college world, it's not a big deal if you can/can't spell...but then again when I first came to college, high school hadn't prepared me at at...

Obviously you missed that spelling class too. In your question you spelt americans without the capital letter. I believe it's Americans. The first word in your description you put ive I believe it is I've. You didn't spell appall correctly. Your comma should be beside abilities not don't. Your don't has an apostrophe missing. You spelt American without the capital AGAIN for the second time and then you used 2 ?? at the end of your question. Double standards much? Your an idiot

Either they are moving too quickly and are not paying attention to what they are typing....... or sadly, it comes down to their education. Some areas of the country have a much better education system than others. It all tends to be money driven. The states and school districts who have the most money tend to have better teachers who know how to push the importance of education on their students. It definitely should matter, if America is the most powerful country in the world, we should all have at least the most basic education, or at the very least spell check.

Thank GOD! I thought I was the only one that noticed these things. I think it is important for people to spell their words correctly - mainly because if you don't you appear to be illiterate. There are people I work with that can't spell very well and one of them is a V.P.!! It really affects how I perceive people when I see an email or anything written/typed from them.
Come on people - learn how to spell - it isn't that hard to do - all you need is determination. (and no, I didn't have to look it up to find out how to spell it). :-)
Peace all

It's not because Americans don't know how to spell the word correctly (even here on this site there is a spell checker some people obviously don't use). I think some people are just too lazy and don't care what they post. I may have a typo here and there, but I always try to spell my words correctly. Sure, it matters, at least to me. :)

This wasn't true prior to multiculturalism and outcome-based education programs forced on our youth by the Socialist reformers and "educrats".Read:The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America.

Believe it or not, there are school systems here in the US that place the student's "self-esteem" above actually learning anything of value.
