belief that gives them a sense of security and no wonder they become very angry with people like me who say that this security is illusary...I can not see how the smallest advantage is to be gained from decieving myself. What do you think about this? How does psychiatry induce this need for a belief system?

The belief serves a purpose, which is an illusion based on our fears and needs for security or safety, comfort, and meaningfulness. The actual facts don't really matter in a belief system. But yes, people will get angry if you tell them the truth or give them facts and they do not go along with the belief systems dogma or propaganda. These beliefs are no more wrong or right then anyone, this is why the scientific evidence is important for all kinds of reasons. Cowardice shrinks from the truth, laziness is content with half truths, arrogance portrays that it knows all truths thus it becomes the the belief system. There is no way that I can force my beliefs on people anymore then they can on me, we are free to come and go and think or should be. I do have proof of what I say or I would not say it in any definitivee way, I could not, as they can not. "You will never succeed in getting at the truth if you think you know, ahead of time, what the truth ought to be." Marchette Chute

And that is why I have asked for the truth over and over again, have you honestly asked for the questions that I started out with to be answered? I have asked time and time again, all over, every place that I know, because I want to be sure and am so far unless anyone can find anyone that can give me any definitive answers to those hunger strike questions which are listed in other questions. Is it okay for others to push the psychiatric propaganda on the world, when it is based on misperceptions and deceptions? I don't think so, so I search and I ask and can still can not get the questions answered. I put them in plain public view, and that is why people would get angry, they can not actually answer them and so it is frustrating to them.

Psychiatry is not a medical or scientific approach, it is a philosophical or religious approach to thinking and behavior, thinking and behavior that some people do not like or find uncomfortable for them. It is also used as a replacement for punishment and since that is so it deserves to be called a punishment if that is the case. Nature and history do not agree with our conceptions of good and bad; they define good as that which survives, and bad as that which goes under; and the universe has no prejudice in favor of God or psychiatry. Non debateable values are things that are meaningful only to us and that is all, debateable values affect the whole and we can debate them because they affect all of us. "I would warn you that I do not attribute to nature...order or confusion. Only in relation to our imagination can things be called...well ordered or confused." Spinoza

"One learns to identify with others, depending upon the nature of his contacts with the important people in his life." Arthur W. Combs "An intelligence (belief system) that is not humane is the most dangerous thing in the world." Ashley Montagu What psychiatry does is inhumane, harmful, and dangerous, as much so as any cult of brain washing. For those who can't or don't believe that there is anything better left, no more hope for our world, and for them there must be something to believe in that can give them some kind of security, comfort, or safety as a whole, and so this can be seen as a belief system as in psychiatry and religion. It can supposedly control that which we think we can not control, and make whole that which we can not make whole, and if we only look around us we see that it is no more then a magic carpet ride, it is illusary and bad things really do happen to good people, and they happen all the time and these systems of belief can do nothing to change this.

Psychiatry can not fix most of the things it says it is fixing, statistics have increased over time with this propaganda it has had to for financial purposes, although it is trying to lead us to believe that it can make things better, and that is a lie since there is plenty of proof that it has made things worse for all of us really. We see the results when we look at all the death and destruction and harm from it, and rather then covering it up and pretending that it will go away it should reexamine itself in light of the truth and change the way it does business if it is going to have to do it or it should stop. The real hope comes from inside of each of us by taking on our role in this world with dignity, hope, self actualization, responsibility, and grace. Doing the right things for the right reasons and not the wrong things just because it is what we are led to believe is good for us, when it isn't. Becoming beacons of light and hope for ourselves and one another.

Putting someone or some higher authority at the center of the universe is healthy. If we were all to believe that there is nothing more important than ourselves we would have a society of egotists. Not that we don't already. People that don't believe there is something greater or that life itself isn't centered around something more important than themselves never really reach the potential that can be. At least, that's what I believe.
I'm not sure about the security aspect of your question. Those that go out on a limb, take a chance, those that put others before themselves, die premature deaths all the time. Where is the security in that?

How can you believe in nothing if beilieving is something?
You security ia in disbelieving in anything but disbelieving is an anything.
The reason why people believe is because you need a past to have a present and an future or else all you have is boundless chaos.
What you call security I call pragmatism.
You have have a point of origin and a direction to create a ray by which to guide yourself.
And by the way, logic is an illusion based on a certainty that cannot be proven beyond all doubt, so throw that out and we are all just wasting words.

The true believer is a master of the art of self-deception. Such a belief gives genuine feeling of security, since feeling of security too is merely a state of mind..... nevertheless, the state of mind is rather a powerful factor... when one is feeling reasonably secure, one operates with a degree of confidence and often is able to take the right steps, whereas one suffering from a sense of insecurity, even if it is false, is quite likely to mess up the affairs. It is not matter that matters the most. All that matters is the state of mind and matter matters only to the extent it influences the state of mind.
I think true believers do benefit from their belief system, unless the belief crosses the path of reality and gets weak in the process.

I have my own beliefs and I wouldn't get angry with people like yourself! My idea is quite simple, I believe that there is a high power than any of us (call It God), if God is real, then great, He will be there after death and so on; if He doesn't exist, then the believe of Him has helped me throughout my life to get over the harder parts, so which ever way I look at it, faith, hard work etc.. (call it God!) exists around me. I've nothing to lose and lots to gain!

A belief is in essence a self defense mechanism. I've never had a psychiatrist who urged me toward any specific belief system. So I can't say that psychiatry does induce a need for a belief system, at least not in my case.

I think what people get angry about is you trying to force your beliefs on them. That is your belief and your reality and that's fine. For you. But you have no more proof that your reality is the ULTIMATE reality than does the one who holds a belief in the non-physical world. If your belief is what gives you YOUR security then great for you, I'm all for it. Not that you need my blessing. But why try to force your belief on someone else. You wouldn't want them to do it to you. Live and let live dear. Treat others as you would like them to treat you.

I lead a simple life and find pleasure in the simple things. I believe in love especially now that I have the most wonderful woman in the world. I believe In God and I am led by my faith in Him. That is all the security I'll ever need.

if they feel a need to feel secure, and their belief helps them feel secure,,, then the belief is serving its purpose, and is not illusionary,,,,,,,, this is true whether the actual facts of their belief come true or not,,,, also,,,,,, no one can really know , can we? as to what the reality of the afterlife (which many beliefs focus on),,,,,or what is really the best way to live this life,,, maybe there are many paths that are equally correct, and many destinations at the end of this journey? that, to me, would make sense,,,,
but yes, people will get angry if you tell them they are wrong,,,,, as they are no more wrong or right then you are , you should just say that their reality is not your reality,,,

I've read that roughly only 2% of humanity actually are worth anything and have value. Everyone else is just filler material. In that, most feel lost and worthless, they do need to have something which provides them with a sense of worth and direction..... Something to live for..... some type of security, even if it is imaginary.

A belief system is a tool to keep a person firmly grounded; it's an anchor to keep the ship from sailing away, to keep the roots firmly planted in place.
