My old ibook went and died or something on me and the guy saved everything to a disc for me. Now I'm trying to open documents from the disc that I remember saving as appleworks documents but all I get is a bunch of codes whenever I try to open them in something else on my pc and I have no idea what to do. Do I have to open them on another mac?

try downloads.com they have lots of utilities for convertign files
one i know of is called mac drive lets your pc read mac formated disks. if oyu can already open the disk on your pc but dont find a converter then you can open the file in word by changing the extention form .ws to . doc or txt you may loose some formatting though. look for somethign free im sure its out there. also i think its possible to save as .doc for word from apple works. if you still have the ibook that may work or you can run to kinkos and use one of thier mac to do the conversion they also usuallly run macdrive on thier pc's in the back if your nice to the kinkoid they might fix you up free

unless you can figure out a way to install appleworks to a windows based pc, you'll need to get the files converted to either a word or txt or microsoft works file before you can open them...this can be done (as far as I know) only from another mac.....most newer macs have microsoft office installed on them and you can open your appleworks files and then move them to the office application and save them as word docs or similar.....then put those files onto the dosc and there you go.

I can't open Word files if I don't have Word on the computer. I can not open PSD files without Photo Shop...

just like you can not open mac files on a PC.

Sorry.

Buy Appleworks, or it's successor (iWorks?), from Apple.
