Never heard of an international driving licence but if you want to drive in another country you have to provide your UK licence, so if it says you're banned on it you won't be able to drive.

NO NO NO! The International Driving Permit is a supplement to your original license, and you need it as well. In fact most EU countries won't accept a UK issued IDP and will want your UK license. Also if you come to the attention of the authorities remember that you will have to fight your case in a foreign language under a strange legal system, with possibly severe penalties. Not only for no license, but probably no insurance as well and you can expect to do time or even have bits cut off (here's hoping!)

in a word NO. You will need to be able to prove you can drive and upon sghowing that your banned they will refuse you.I suspect the only way around it is to learn to drive again in a european country and get a foriegn licence or if your feeling adventorous, buy a car and just drive it and hope for the best, which i don't recommend as there stricter out there than here

If your ban is related to a drink-driving offence I think you can. I'm also banned becasue of drink-driving. I attended to the rehabitation course and the instructor told me that you can still drive anywhere else apart from UK. What you need to do is to call up DVLA and ask for details

Let's say if you are in France and you want to drive, you need to call DVLA up and ask them to fax you a document called 'entitlement of licence' and they will fax it to you. But they don't fax to any number in UK so you got to do it in the country you're in. The best thing is probably to tell DVLA to fax it to the hotel you're in/going to stay. However, you'll need a insurance company to cover you, not many insurance companies cover banned driver so it's difficult to find.

The International driving license is only issued if you have a valid National license. (i.e. UK)
If yours has been suspended then by default it applies to Your International one.
The International License scheme is a bit Mickey Mouse and requires no testing etc. it is not taken very seriously so be very carefull.
