I posted a question where I made a statement that
The L.A. band The Doors worked for Elektra Records.
Someone said "When did they work for
Elektra Records?". It got me thinking, well, didn't
they in fact work for or were employed by that
label? If not, where them and 40 other groups I
can think of all "free agents"?
The American band signed a contract
I don't know per se what was in the contract,
except that the group signed to do seven albums.

It's all history now, but I was looking for some
viewpoints on this. Now that the company that
owns the company that owns the company is
so vast, musicians may just form their own
companies, then sell the company when they
have made the recordings they wanted. I could
have posted this in Conglomerates.,,,,,,',/l,"

when a band is signed to a contract with a record company..they are employed in fact by that label.
technically they do work for the record company...it kind of takes the glamour out of the music industry though doesn't it...?..i think the music industry loves the polished image....
it's a well known fact that if a bands records don't meet the numbers..their contract becomes null and void.
( the doors did work for elektra)
