Cingular currently has 62 million subscribers as of 2007, and claims to operate the largest digital voice and data network in the United States.[5] Formerly a joint venture between AT&T and BellSouth, the company has been wholly owned by AT&T since December 2006 as a result of AT&T's acquisition of BellSouth.

the word "cingular" doesn't mean anything except as the name of the cell phone company. perhaps a play on the word singular?
