I don't want to "import" any of the security problems I've been having with internet explorer, but it will be kind of tedious to re-bookmark all my stuff.

Not only is it safe, it's completely automatic.
Although, I have found since I have been using Firefox that I don't even use the favorites anymore. I have all my favorites set as their own button right on the address bar.

I would re bookmark it. I use Mozilla too because IE has more bugs in it than a dead guy with no casket. Don't trust them.

I can only tell you from my personal use of both that I had no problems and love firefox, I use it more than explorer.

bookmarks are just stored links to sites so there should not be any problems.
