I had a scan recently because of bleeding in pregnancy and the scanner/sonographer pointed out my polycystic ovaries on the screen. I am currently pregnant with my 2nd child. Both were conceived after a very short period of time and without trying.

The reason I am quite interested is because my older sister also has the condition but cannot have children without IVF. SHe is now divorced and in her 40s so she probably wont have any now, but i dont understand how comes she couldnt have children as I know she wants them. (on a side note i think she might adopt anyway)

We both have the other symptoms though - i.e. excess hair growth... yuck!!

4 yrs ago I concieved my son the first month of trying.

2 yrs ago we tried to concieve again, and after a yr of trying I was told I had PCOS - had the symptoms all my teenage yrs, but as I am dark hair, dr's put it down to that / puberty.
After all tests, I was put on Metformin, and within a few weeks I fell pregnant again.

I am currently 24 weeks.

My sister has polycystic ovaries she had a few probs conceiving so many trips to a fertility clinic resulted in a little girl, they told her that she would never conceive naturally BUT 3 years later after missing the pill she had a little boy no probs at all.
Polycystic ovaries can effect different people in different ways, my sis has two children with no probs with the second BUT me i have no children and suffer with the same condition but i can be treated with the same drugs as she was as they have no effect.
It really depends on what other effects the PSOS is having and how bad it really is.
Let your sis know there is a great website if she needs support or advice and if she needs advice on what steps to take next.

Yes, me.

I had an ectopic pregnancy about 12 years ago, and after the op they told me that both my ovaries were covered in cysts.

However, I have never had any of the other symptoms you describe, so possibly I couldn't really be said to suffer from POS.

Had no difficulties conceiving my son, though.

My friend has polycystic ovaries and has 2 healthy children which didnt take much time to conceive. It must just affect people in different ways.

I have PCOS and my son was conceived during the first month that we decided to not be careful, but not really try either. I'm crossing my fingers that we will be as lucky next year when we start TTC for baby #2. I know many people who successfully have children despite having PCOS. However, it is also one of the main causes of infertility!

hi, I too think it affects different people in different ways, I have PCO as well and have been trying for two traumatic years and now I am on treatment... my Dr says that those cycts are not permanant, sometimes you have them some times you dont.... I guess being on medication has regulated my ovulation because I wasnt ovulating before but had regualr periods

Victoria Beckham apparently is afflicted. Doesn't seem to have affected her fertility much!
