My fireplace is not very effecient, and I need something to cover the screen to keep the heat or cool air from going up the chimney. Years ago, we had friends who had a magnetic "blanket" but I can't seem to find any.

How are the chimney caps installed? Up on the roof? If so, not possible for us, as we are elderly. Would need someone to do it for us. Is there someplace online where I could go to see just what they are?

You may want to buy one of the new chimney caps that also include the damper. When closed, it completely seals the chimney. Normal chimney dampers are not airtight as they need space to pivot.
