I have a shed and am putting in supports for the shed.

My shed will be 10 x 16. The measurements for the four corners are as follows:

Length 178.75 inches apart
Width 104.5 inches apart

When I measure the opposite diagonal corner what should that measurement be? Assuming my corners are all square.

If the shed is going to be 10 x 16, shouldn't the length be 192 inches and width 120 inches?

The two diagonals need to be the same measurement, in order to assure that the shed is square. For your length & width, the measurement should be 207.06 inches.

178.75^2 + 104.5^2 = 207.06^2

If your shed is 107.75 x 104.5 and you wanted to know the diagonal distance, it would come out to 205.3310", or just a little over 17 feet (17.110 feet to be exact).

Good luck!

You are looking for the hypotenuse of a right triangle, the diagonal

(Diagonal)^2 = (length)^2 + (width)^2

(Diagonal)^2 = 178.75^2 + 104.5^2
(Diagonal)^2 = 42871.183

Take the square root of both sides

Diagonal = 207.06

a^2 + b^2 = c^2 is the equation for a right triangle. A right triangle is half of an isosceles triangle. An isosceles triangle is half of a square. So you have four right triangles in a square. I'll let you figure out the rest instead of hogging all the fun for myself.
