My hubby is talking about something that happen at work, meanwhile, I am thinking about "real issues" with my kids and home so I ask you:
"Have you ever heard what he/she said but not listened ONE word?"
Am I being selfish right now?

I'm actually pretty sure that my wife does that to me, so if I can tell that she is distracted then I will stop rambling and ask her "what's in your head" and she is pretty good about spilling it. Communication is a major portion of a relationship, so I try real hard to pay attention to signs and signals that she is preoccupied with thought.

Clo, dear, you are a woman and highly skilled at multi-tasking.
You are not being selfish, you are currently meeting everyone's needs.
He doesn't want you to solve anything, he probably doesn't even need you to comment, just listen. And you did.
You are planning ahead for your family, because someone has to.
I have done this many times. Because our brains are capable. When it's an important relationship talk, that's the time to shut the rest out. Otherwise, continue on!

Lol, i do this most of the time!! It is a bit mean, but i find i can't help it. As soon as you realise you are doing it you should make an effort to listen. Just because its not important to you doesnt mean its not important to him... and he is your hubby! Tell him whats on your mind too, then it might not distract you so much!! good luck

no , i dont think that you are being selfish , there is only so much a person can handle . i would say that since men do need to be listened to , i would try to pick up his general comment about his day before blocking it all out. he may ask you about his topic later and that would be dicey if you didnt know what he was talking about :) . i have done that before ( block people out) not intentionally but I realize that i have done that , i think sometimes we got alot on our minds and sometimes there really is no room for anything else at that moment . so dont feel guilty about it .

I know what that feels like -- I get home and not a single person wants to hear or even know anything about my day
what I have to say ---- it is heartbreaking and soul destroying,
especially if you are interested in important issues out there...

sure there are "real"issues!!but you should listen patiently, maybe giving advice,or an understanding ear!sure you and the children are more important!!but how would you feel if he never told you anything, and then you'd feel shut-out!!be patient!and listen..like you would want him to listen!!
