Yes, I completely agree with you. I believe in and love God, let me get that clear first of all. However, I don't believe in this God that "christianity" tries to teach us about who is jealous, angry and vengeful. I believe in the God that Jesus came to teach us of who is all-loving, forgiving and accepting of ALL people. Not just a select few who tithe at church each Sunday while sinning the other 6 days. I also don't believe in hell or eternal damnation, but that's another question for the Religion & Spirituality section.
Jesus taught us that we must love our neighbour as ourself. That we must treat others as we wish to be treated. I believe that this is THE golden rule for getting along in life and that we would all be better off following this one rule. If we did nothing else, this world would be a much more pleasant place. It's a hard thing to do especially when you feel that someone has "wronged" you in someway, but think how much better the outcome would be for everyone by turning the other cheek and then treating them as you would like (or would have liked) them to treat you, instead of automatically exacting revenge or blowing up in anger.
How much more pleasant would this world be if we didn't judge and condemn each other. Especially those who do it in God's name!! That is the biggest blasphemy of all!

I agree that religious people do terrible things to other people. I am not religious; I am a Christian. When someone is Christian (not the fake majority), God does transform their thoughts and their hearts. This is a process but the result is ultimately that they fight for human rights, they fight poverty, they are often arrested, tortured and murdered for opposing very powerful people, they fight greed and materialism, they go to those who have disease and whom society rejects, they mix with all the "undesirables" and so on. God is a great motivator, and He pushes people who truly believe in Him to carry out astounding, wonderful acts on a grand scale. The gods of all religions are false. All religion destroys, hurts and murders. God does not usually stop people from hurting themselves; He lets them learn valuable lessons. He did warn us about many things but we often do them anyway. He has told us how to be happy and at peace with ourselves and others, and He gives us the power to work towards these things and to achieve these things, but we have to choose whether we are going to take His advice or not and whether we will tap into His power or not. Most people throughout history have rejected His advice and continue to do so today, hence the suffering that exists.
PS: Most people already put themselves first. This is why there is so much suffering.

certain we ought to placed ourselves 1st through the undeniable fact that is geared up that we are in a good looking good position that we may be able to help others. e.g.say your mom and father have kept some funds for u to get your education so as that u can get a good looking good pastime.which decision is more advantageous for society? (a million) you provide away all that income charity right now after which get a menial pastime someplace after which conflict for survival regularly having to take loans or (2)spend that funds properly on your own education, qualify your self, get a good looking good pastime with a steady income after which honestly set about attempting to assist others as a lot as plausible for the era of your existence? i imagine No.2 is smart......and as for "We lie, cheat, scouse borrow and kill one yet another yet declare we worship "god". We smoke, do drugs and alcohol, "===no longer each and anybody might want to do those issues and u can't blame the religion because human beings do no longer practice it.i do not imagine ANY faith easily TELLS all people to do those issues.that's the folk's own fault.

I do not disagree with you in that there are many self proclaimed devotees who commit many kinds of so called sins including the ones you mention and also the sin of taking advantage of the trust of other believers in fellow devotees.
Now let us not take away the right of sinners to remember God or spend some time at least talking about God.
All believers believe God resides in each one of us. Non-believers or atheists may simply refer to this as the Goodness in each of us (for even the greatest sinner will have some thing good and nice in him). If each one of us can put that Goodness or God to the forefront and make it our identity there will definitely be lasting Bliss in the world.

When you put Go first in your life everything else falls into place. You will have guidance and above all strength to get thru the test and trials of life. The greatest gift is his son that sacrificed his life for us so we can have life and have it more ABUNDANTLY. With this abundance you must bless others, not just financially but with the knowledge of him. Yes just with every thing else there are some hypocrites(talk the talk but don't walk the walk). You have the choice to live the life you choose to live-- its also up to you who you will serve. If you don't stand for something then you will fall for anything.. God is everywhere, he is all knowing and the things that happens to us are just stepping stones to glory.. hope this helps..

God is the voice of our conscience, so by putting him first what people are claiming is that we are thinking of the greater good. In other words if people did truly put God first we wouldn't have half the problems we do today. But like other things in life we are all fallible and so say one thing but do the complete opposite.

well if you believe in god then u should be grateful that he put us on this earth and gave us such a wonderful planet...but what has destroyed us and caused the world to suffer and die is "choice". But we should also look at choice as a one of the most confusing and wonderful things...just imagine life without it...we would be just a controled object...completely lifeless and no "worth or meaning" to our lives

Many believers would assert that since God is the creator of human nature, he is best able to help his creature realize the purpose and potential of that nature. Therefore when seeking the purpose and meaning of one's life, one should begin with that wisdom and knowledge that comes from God. Not all people accept this conviction, or even if they, do, they fail to live out its demands and implications.
As far as "putting ourselves first", you would have to detail what precisely you mean by this. Do you mean that we should always act out of self interest? And in terms of self-interest, how will you adjudicate the needs and interests of the individual and the collective? Self interest alone may not be a pleasant as you might think as a basis for understanding the meaning and purpose of human existence.
Insight might come from Aristotle who postulated in his theory of friendship the need for a transcendent dimension to all human relationships. The condition for the possibility for friendship is a purpose, a meaning for the relationship that brings one out of the banalities of self-interest and into a sense of purpose that comes from having a common goal. For some believers, "putting God first" is a way of understanding this dynamic of human relationships, but God need not be the transcendent starting point for all-- for others it might mean the dedication of one's life to generosity and virtue, or to the betterment of humanity.
As far as human failure in the face of idealism, that failure does not in itself negate trying, or the good that can be accomplished, even though our efforts will always be predicated by our finitude and narrowness of mind and heart.

Hi. We should put God first because he is responsible for us being here in the first place. No God , no human race and no Universe.

God gives us choice. It is up to us to decide what choices we make and whether we will live according to God's teachings or do what we want. Just because someone says that they put God first, doesn't necessarily mean that they do. We are supposed to put God first. You can tell by looking at how someone lives their life whether they really put God first. Without God, there is nothing. Without God, life has no meaning.
