1)Study in an environment that is right for you...not everyone can study in total silence, some need music or light background noise.
2) Make sure you have all the materials you need so you can stay focused and not have to get up to keep finding things.
3) Have something to munch on and drink....you wont be able to focus if you are hungry or thirsty.
4) Finally...take breaks. Even short 10-15 min ones. Dont sit there for hours on end...you wont be productive that way.

The first answer was great. Also, don't study in front of the TV. Find a quiet area with plenty of room to spread out your books and paperwork.

rewrite your class notes witin 8 hours of taking them - why?
of the 100% you forget in 30 days - 1/2 is gone in 8 hrs -
....and what DID that squiggly line mean
reread(not memorize) your notes every night before
going to sleep
before your test - get a good nights rest - and a great breakfast
because the brain needs carbs to operate! (THINK!)
best of luck

notecards.
I find it helps me greatly (especially for foreign language, social studies, and sometimes science) to memorize the information with them.
If you need help, for example remembering if a foreign language noun is masculine/feminine, you can color-code with pen ink.
