It could be the battery cables, starter, or solenoid. If it's a manual transmission car, push start it and head down to an AutoZone parts store, or the like. They will check for you.

The FIRST thing I'd do though, is check your battery cable connections, and clean up the battery posts...

PS
Automatic? I get the impression that you aren't "into" working on cars. If you don't have someone who can help you, you might be able to avoid a tow by loosening the clamps or connections on the battery, work them back and forth a bit, retighten and give it a try. It's not that hard to do. It might get you going, but have your car serviced.

To eliminate more possible causes, try a jumper cable to start the car. If it does not start, one or more cells in your battery may be shorted and there is too little voltage to operate the starter. The specific gravity of individual cells can be measured in batteries that permit distilled water to be added (also check water levels in the cells!). If the car starts with a jumper everything but the battery must be OK. Clean and tighten the terminals at the starter as well as at the battery because poor contact will reduce actual voltage and current across the starter terminals. Operate other electrical loads together on your 'good' battery with the ignition switch in the position to run loads without the engine running and determine if that is normal (try the cigar lighter too?). Ignition switches may use low current to operate a relay that connects high current across the starter and the relay may be defective. The local library may have a repair manual including an electrical diagram for your make and model and a search of the diagram may reveal all the items that must function (fuses?) to start your car including a faulty ignition switch? The problem is likely a cause and effect and you may have the skills and tools to diagnose and confirm the problem with a little ingenuity.

let me ask you a question, does the starter click or do anything? if it is a battery that has the eye on top and it shows green it could still be bad then you might try putting the car in neutral this checks to see if the neutral start switch is good or not since it won't start in park. if it does the same thing I'd have the battery load tested to make sure it's good then start checking with a test light to make sure your getting power to the starter via the battery cable & through the ing switch whice you'll need help on this just someone to turn the key while you have a test light touching to the s terminal on the starter, or depending on what type of vehicale it could have a blown fuse check in the under the hood fuse box with the test light for bad fuses check both sides of the fuse.

The battery indicator shows fully charged and when left on the charger it will start once but after turning it off and then trying to start it again it won t start. I started the car after it had been on the charger and then drove around and let it run for 45 mins. turned it off and it would not start just clicked. Could it be the alternator is not charging or is the battery not charging enough to start the vehicle

Had the same problem a while back. I had charged the battery but after starting the car once it would resort back into clicking. Called the AA out, they checked my performance and it should the battery was not putting out enough power.
i changed he battery and everything is fine now.
Hope this helps...Use a friends battery first just to check but i bet it will start with another.

check the battery connections, clean if needed. have the starter and starter solenoid checked. if it is a manual transmission, have the clutch switch checked. if it is automatic, make sure the gear shift is in park or neutral. check you fuses for blown ones
