given that I have no type size options. Is there a keyboard combination?

Alt+0178 is quick for ². 10² . You can use 'superscript' in Word/Format/Font, Check superscript box/insert power number.

Use the symbol ^.
The no. before it is considered as the base and the no. after it is the exponent.

eg
2^3 = 2 cube = 8
3^2 = 3 square = 9

In the theory of indices a^m^n is a^(mn)

So x squared to the power of 11 is x ^ (2x11) or x ^ 22

u can do it in micro words as in -
for ex : 11 squared = 11 2
then select 2 and then right click on it
when u get the list then click on 'fonts'
there'll be size, color .....
but below u can see there's a column for subscipt or superscript .... and all that
just click on the necessary one and then thats is

Superscript = Ctrl + shift + "=" (do the same to toggle back to normal type)

Subscript = Ctrl + "=" does the same for subscript

(x^2)^11 would be one option

If you wanted it as x^(2^11) that would be a way of doing it.
