Everything is subjective. If it offends you, then they are terms of abuse and should NOT be tolerated.

Even if they don't offend you, I would think someone would have to know you pretty damned well to speak to you in those terms.

Depends on the person. I have a friend that totally thinks of the word 'queer' as her badge of honor. One male friend of mine is a total 'queen' and he loves it. BUT, he's the type that sometimes wears a full face of makeup, fishnets, high heels and corsets that expose his hairy back. He's not a cross dresser, just very dramatic sometimes.

It's only abusive when used in a negative way. I really don't have any friends that are homophobic so it's never an issue with us. It's always strangers that scream 'F**king queer!' out of car windows. That's when it's abusive in my world.
