Game winning home run. If the team that's batting in the bottom of the inning hits one that wins the game. So lets say the game is tied and the home team hits a homerun in the bottom of the ninth. The game ends right there because they dont need any more runs to win. They go home therefor it's a walk off homerun.

In baseball, a walk-off home run is a home run which ends the game. It must be a home run that gives the home team the lead in the bottom of the final inning of the game — either the ninth inning, any extra inning, or any other regularly-scheduled final inning. It is called a "walk-off" home run because the teams walk off the field immediately afterward.

When the home team hits last (its called home field advantage) and they are behind or tied (because they don't even play the bottom of the 9th if they are ahead-the home team wins) and someone hits a homerun that puts the home team over the opposing team, then they win the game and don't have to finish the inning. They call it a walk off home run.

It is when it is the last inning and the home team is up to bat. They are tied or losing. And they hit a home run and it scores the winning run. That is what a walk-off home run is!
Hope this helps.

Game-ending, game-winning home run. Everyone gets to walk off the field!
By extension, pitchers could occasionally throw a walk-off strikeout, but we never hear about that.

The home team is tied or behind by 3 runs. Then a hitter hits a home run to get the lead and the win.

when it is a tie game and a player hits a homer in the bottom of the ninth or in extra innings. This is happening a lot this year, so watch baseball as much as you can!
