I was at the World Trade Center on 9/11 and I lived a block away. I had llived there for several years before 9/11.
Don’t try to use 9/11 to justify the war in Iraq. That is dishonest. It is also infuriating to those of us who experienced 9/11 first-hand.
The alleged perpetrator of 9/11, Osama bin Laden, is still at large. Iraq had nothing to do with that attack. The Bush administration used false claims and misleading attempts to connect the two in order to exploit 9/11 and rev up support for the invasion of Iraq.
Also, your claim that nothing was done after the first attack on the WTC is false. Under Clinton, almost all of the people involved in that attack were captured and brought to justice.
Before 9/11, the Bush administration completely ignored warnings of an impending attack by al Qaeda and did absolutely nothing. Since 9/11, little has been accomplished by the Bush administration and the terrorist situation has gotten worse.
Also note that in 2004 most voters in NYC voted for Kerry. The Bush administration had decided to pursue the long-held neocon wish to invade Iraq and has ignored the terrorist threat and national security. We are less safe today. The Iraq war has created more terrorists and given many of them on-the-job training. The invasion of Iraq has been a recruitment boon for the jihadists.
If you’re going to ask a question about terrorism and our current situation, at least try to be honest.

Let me put it this way.
First, there is no evidence what so ever that Iraq was involved in 9/11. So the war is wrong. I am supposing you r talking about this Iraq war.
Second, if your son is maltreated by a neighbor, and all you know is his name is Robert, would you try to beat up all neighbors called Robert? Seems to me that US done that.
Third, it maybe fair to resolve the problems letting the Arab nations to deal with. It a very sensitive situation to keep Iraq or Israel in a fighting ring. It must stopped. It takes to much time to deal with by arms. Maybe peace is a better way, like North Ireland maybe. Is not quite peace but it is a start. Long wars make people care less about it.

So what do we do next? I'm not being a smart @ss..I just wish someone would answer that. Deportation? Whoever is going to do whatever, is most likely already here and were in place before 9/11. So that if we did close our borders it would not be too late for them to carry out there plans whenever. So What do we do next? I don't care how many people hate me for it.. I think we should keep middle easterners out. And deport ...sorry, folks but give me a better answer. THAT IS homeland security. everybody wants to fix the problem, but no one wants to take responsibility for the drastic measures it would take to do that. Statue of liberty reads: "Give me your tired your poor. Your huddled masses longing to breath free." Not "give me your fanatics and terrorists your huddle masses longing to murder us." Does it sound racist? Stereotyping? Well, it probably is but what is the answer??? I don't actually dislike middle easterners as such. But I love America. I don't expect them to love us either. People say on here all the time to fellow Americans. America, love it and fight for it or leave it! So what's wrong with what I am saying. And In turn, We could stop killing those from the middle east.

Like the previous answers, Iraq war II simply was not about terrorism at all. Bush & Co. may have believed it is about terrorism, but it is definitely not. Don't want to be cynical or anything, but the war is more and more like the fight for oil (I don't quite believe Bush is really in for it personally, but I am sure his oil friends were happy), personal vendetta ("After all, he (Saddam) tried to kill my daddy." Bush's quote during one of press conferences when he is making his case for the war), and civil war (why do we want to fight for a country when 70% of it citzen believes it is okay to attack us when we are trying to help?).
Bush has been wrong about the evidence, the conduct of war, the post war planning, and the readiness of the military to sustain the war (i.e. Walter Reed scandal). I certainly will not trust him with the future fighting in Iraq. He is 4 for 4. How many chances does he get to play with American lives and our future? Never trusted him since day 1. Unfortunely, my predictions have come to pass.

I know this will be very unpopular, but....sometimes the only way to achieve peace is at the barrel of a gun.
