I do not have an external hard drive myself, but Toshiba is a very reliable brand, we once had a toshiba tv we bought over 9 years ago and it still works perfectly now. Good luck!

Western Digital silly. :O) I have a Toshiba and it works like a charm! I've had Western Digital internal hard drives that did not last very long!

the main thing i would check is warranty and service. warranty length and service can be checked for free on both websites. my personal choice would be western digital, but thats because of ease of return. im more of a pragmatists, as i dont like service headaches.
