I want it to fit my gf, but it doesn't fit over my head, i guess maybe i just have a really big head
should it fit her if she has a normal size head?? is it normal length??

Don't worry about whether or not it fits over YOUR head. What should concern you is whether it will fit around HER neck. There is probably a clasp at the back of the necklace. That is how people put on necklaces. After all, she is not going to be wearing military dog tags. A necklace is a nice piece of jewelry.
Common lengths for necklaces are: Collar -- 12 to 13 inches; Choker 14 to 16 inches; Princess 17 to 19 inches; Matinee 20 to 24 inches; Opera 28 to 34 inches; and Rope or Lariat over 45 inches.

What?! Nacklaces are worn on the neck-not head!!
By the way, if the necklace is worn by slipping it to the head, why don't you buy that necklace with your gf to make sure that she fits the necklace.
If you already bought the necklace, but it doesn't fit to your gf, return it to the store, if they don't allow you, give the necklace to someone else (if you like).
