and you talked to them on messenger sometimes in a strictly nonsexual and friendly way, and they told you their spouse was jealous and making demands of them to drop friends would you encourage them to still talk to you, or give them the cold shoulder in the hopes that it would help them out at home?

Yeah this has happened to me too. I just let him know that I was always available for a friendly chat whenever he felt it would be okay for him. I also talked to his wife on messenger and explained the situation, and she said she got that we were just pals, but she still preferred we didn't chat any more.

Basically you can't interfere in someone's marriage, even if you're not doing anything wrong. You know you would hate to think of them fighting or bickering because of you.

After this I got pretty jack of IM altogether.

I agree, that is taking things to an extreme. Some people go overboard with the "no cheating" thing. I was once just bored and trying to find a decent conversation in a chatroom and a girl told me she couldn't chat with me because she had a boyfriend in real life who was with her there in the room. It's just ridiculous. But since you asked, I think it's only fair to try and understand this woman's position (the one you're referring to, not me). I will admit that there usually is some underlying chemistry when you have a friend of the opposite sex. Even if it's someone you're completely unattracted to, even if it's someone you would never date no matter what, I think there's always that subconscious awareness that it's a person of the opposite sex. Maybe she feels that she's being impure by sharing that feeling with anyone but her husband.

you can't cure anybody's problem with straying. that is a matter to be handled at home, if they can make it work out they will. the worst thing you can do, considering you seem to care so much is avoid the situation completely. that is definately not a very wise way to respond. what if she's being hurt by him? he's being outright controlling and demanding of her. Do you think this is right??? I guess it's a matter of morals. Don't think it's not your place to speak your mind. You have every right to play a significant role in anybody's life. especially for those u care about.

I personally would be there if THEY wanted. BUT I also would tell them that I would understand if they wanted to stop being in contact with me. This being ONLY becuase if they were my friend I would care enough about them not to put them on the outs with the jealous husband or wife depending on the sex you're talkin bout. BUT I would also let her know that I'd be there for her and she could contact me anytime she wanted to. Let her make the decision.

I wouldn't give them the cold shoulder but I would encourage them to solve their problems at home but being rude and giving them the cold shoulder wouldn't help. How do you know he/she will stop talking to his/her other online friends?

You can figure that if she has no respect for her husband then she probably lacks respect in most of the other aspects of her life as well. More than likely she is not the kind of person that is worth putting yourself in harm's way over. If she is that drama-addicted that she has to find ways to upset him, then do yourself a favor and don't be the reason. You'd be better off if she found another toy.

I'd ask them to tell the spouse there is nothing between us but I know how jealous one can get. We'd just chat less I suppose if nothing works out

Well, I'ld have to answer, I'm not controlled by others, and I don't have anything to hide, so, yes I would encourage them to still talk to me. Besides if their spouses had anything against this typing comunicato, Then thats their hangup, their insecurity.

I think you are here to have fun and shouldn't worry so much. Being too serious about things will take the fun out of it. Let it be♥
