Definitely not going to Iran or Iraq. Places of interest are Egypt, Israel, Jordan and Turkey.

Any one from North America or Europe is in grave danger in the Middle East. I think the only ones who would be in even more danger that a western Caucasian would be a Jew or a Christian.
Man those fanatics can be mean. I'd stay away from those lands if I were you. But then that's just me. Maybe I'm a little paranoid about it, but then again judging from all the news reports ....maybe I've hit the nail right on the head.

I would say Israel is generally safe. I really do not know about Jordan. I am not an American and I would not go there. I would go to Istanbul but would stay away from the rest of Turkey. Perhaps my perceptions of Jordan and Turkey are wrong. Perhaps someone, American or not, who has been there as a tourist can give us more information.

With the jealousy the other Countries have of Americans and, yes, the hate, probably due to their own "have nots" we're at best going to be tolerated until the cash flow ebbs.
My grandson is in Iraq and has been with a private contractor for several years now, he says stay away from these Countries, for now.

I think you have to be careful no matter where you go. Before you go, if you choose to I would suggest checking out the different cultures of the countries you are interested in going to. Some countries have specific rules and regs like women cannot drive, have to wear a head scarf etc

To be honest I wouldn't test it. If anything I'd claim to be Australian or Icelandic when asked, or any other nationality that hasn't participated in any fighting in that area as of yet.
Americans aren't generally liked down there....

Do not worry. Most likely you would like them. Safer than streets in cities of America. All American I have seen when get there they get diffrent prespective than what you see in the media.
