I was the 2nd shift foreman during 1985 and I never heard of a failure. The main two pieces were welded by machine and the ancillary parts were hand welded by very good welders with long term seniority. After completion, the part went through a wax dip. This is a FMVSS part which means it went under intense review for durability.

Depends on whether it has been undercoated or not.
Depends on how much exposure to corrosive materials (salt, etc...)
I've purchased 15 year old cars from down south that looked like they just rolled off of the assembly line. The same aged cars coming from the east coast or in areas where they use salt as a road de-icer have been in a failing condition.

if your car is moderately maintained it should last quite some time. the cradle is not a part that fails usaully everything around it will (i.e. bushings) The cradle will however only fail due to accident damage

It should easily outlast everything else on the car as it is made from pure pig iron. As long as it does not get bent in an accident.
