my parents are telling me i cannot go to lebanon to visit my family and the country this summer because it is not safe..is it true that an american-arab-sunni is a very popular person to be kidnapped at this time, like my parents tell me?

No, I am an American too who is living here and it is completely safe here and the police are everywhere. But I think you should listen to your family and do not disappoint them.

Israel foolishly pulled out of Lebanon on the assumption that the Hisb'Allah terrorists would not be permitted to re-arm and to return to their positions in southern Lebanon. Unfortunately, the United Nations once again double-crossed Israel and did not enforce UN Resolution 1701, which would have kept the terrorists where they were at the time of the cease fire. Meanwhile, arms continue to flow from Iran via Syria to the Hisb'Allah, unchecked by the Lebanese army and by UNIFIL, in violation of the UN resolution.
Israel will have to fight another war there sometime soon to protect the civilians living in northern Israel.

Watch the news, send a letter back home, ask about the area, and see how many people disappear, or are taken captive/hostage.
I would not go to that area without a full compliment of BlackWater guards and five million in kidnapping insurrance, and I know how to take care of myself.

LOL, im going there next month (may), and i dont care if anything happens, i miss lebanon and my family, so im going, i think your family are just scared and dont want any harm to happen to you, never mind, just wait a bit, the more you wait the more you will love it there

Faroohy , my wife & I are going there in a couple of months as well ...
Our understanding is that it is quite safe at the moment but having said that circumstances over there can change very quickly .
You must listen to your parents ...they would be very worried if you were to go & rest assured there will be plenty of opportunities for you to go in the future.
We are prepared to risk it but that is our decision to make ... as far as the liklihood that you would be targeted because of your religion &/or nationality , how many kidnappings have we heard of in recent times ? I havn't heard of any !

No one is kidnapping anyone. What happened two days ago is a political isolated case...but no one is kidnapping people for the fun of it, at least not yet.
Anyway, your parents are scared for your safety and you should do what they tell you

It could be very dangerous for you. The Hezbollah are Shi'a and take orders from the Iranian ayatollahs. As a Sunni you would be in great danger from the Hezbollah. Your parents are trying to protect you. Listen to them.
