My shoe size is 8 but I act 23 because thats the age I am. My daughters shoe size is 6 (baby size) but she acts like a 20 month old, not a 6 year old.

I'm not sure I understand your question. I am 66. My shoe size is an 8 or 8 1/2. If the shoe is made in Italy, I can wear a 10.

Act your age, not your shoe size sounds like a statement that might be made by a a teacher directed toward a student who is exhibiting behavior unacceptable to a particular age, or a parents who expects certain behavior from their children at a specific age.

Parents, society, the educational system expect a "certain" behavior from people based upon their age. Two -year olds are not expected to "act" like six-year olds. Six-year olds are not expected to "act" like twelve-year olds; but when fourteen-year-olds act like six-year-olds, we begin telling them "act your age". They are "acting" their age; they are fourteen!

I am 66 years old, and am a retired teacher who now substitutes in elementary, middle schools, and high schools in a large metropolitan school system. Telling a student in today's education system to "act your age, not your shoe size" will only result in that student threatening to report the teacher to the principal for harassment, or the parents filing a suit against the school.

Parents send their children to school to learn; yet, when the school system expects behavior from these children that might lead to learning, parents object. Parents need to "act their age". Stand up and be parents.
