the dsl and the phone our no the same line

that happened to me last week--it was a line underground outside that was disconnected. the dsl was fine, but my phone was dead air. the repair man person dug it up and hooked it back up.

They do both use the same line from the distribution point to your home, but within the core of the telco network, they are dissected logically to a data network (DSLAM - DSL Access Multiplexer) and the Telephone Switch TEX (Telephone Exchange).

The DSL network works independently from the TEX within the core of the Telco network. Hence, if there is a problem within any of the individual components within the telco core, only services related to that particular problematic component are affected.
