For you Europeans - how many T.V. Stations do you get?\
- do you get ALL American movies over there?
- Do you get American T.V. shows like Lost and Simpsons etc?

- Do you make your own movies and T.V shows?
_ if so, why dont they ever make it to U.S. T.V?

Just curious.

Yes. Believe it or not, we have discovered TV and the Motion Picture Camera. My guess as to why our (British) programmes and films don't make such a big impact over there is the culture. Our comady and drama is uniquely British and therefore not easily understood by the vast majority of foreigners. You have however, copied some of our situation comedies. We had a programme years ago called Till Death Us Do Part. Your copy was called Archie Bunker. You are also copying The Vicar Of Dibley and you've now taken Weakest Link (having seen an American version, that was all of them. Thick or what).

Some programmes / films can't be copied or transposed because they are unique to where they come from. I saw an episode of a German comdey which had been sub-titled. I've seen funnier car crashes. The Scandinavian sense of humour leaves me baffled as well.

I think what divides us all, is the collective national spin that we take regarding everyday matters. This collective spin is what helps to shape our TV / film industry and the way it portrays events. Let's face it, if we were all the same our media would be bloody boring as we'd all be producing the same thing, be it good or bad.

Just a thought.

Ok, if you don't think Bollywood is enough, how about British programming? There are shows from the BBC on American television, on PBS, BBC America, HBO, etc. And many more British shows have inspired American versions, such as The Office and What Not to Wear.

And EVERY country has a film industry, besides countries like North Korea.

Compare that to American films and TV shows, of which more and more are filmed in Canada...

They don't make it over here because the US public as a whole sees the culture of the rest of the world as secondary to our own culture. Europe and the rest of the world gets American produced media, as the US is fairly prolific in these matters. But in most countries the local culture is far more prevalent than ours. It's like other countries here, to some degree. We get international movies from Britain, Japan, and a number of other countries here, but it's not the majority. Same with most other countries.

outstanding question! the fast answer is, honestly. yet i'm oftentimes incapable of short solutions. how a lot of human beings residing in abject poverty are instructed some version of "pull up your bootstraps" simply by fact the guy is only responsible for their fulfillment? the concern with North united statesa. is that it places too plenty emphasis on the means of the guy to conquer--to conquer prejudice, discrimination, economic intolerance. there is not any money in welfare; there is not any money in prevention; there is not any money for the homeless. and there is not any desire to assist others as a results of severe individualism. Why care if this is not any longer you? i like "evangelize tantalizing photos" simply by fact it somewhat is precisely what this is. there are maximum of comments approximately reaching the yank Dream...yet purely as many approximately dropping that dream. Even in those, the guy is finally responsible for regardless of destiny the author determines. The emphasis on the accessibility of the yank Dream is reported--besides the indisputable fact that this is needed. without it, how can governments, the media and different company entities convince us to purchase into the entire fantasy? anybody keeps telling us this is interior of our draw close, and it purely would take place, so we keep going contained in the desire that it will.

If its popular in America it will be released in the UK, as for channels we get more than 30 on freeview as for cable or satellite I'm not sure. I think theres a few UK based shows shown in America like the office and who wants to be a millionaire but they are changed to suite an American audience.

*coughs* Bollywood :-) And believe me, we've got soaps and shows that run for AGES without the TRPs ever dropping... in about 10 languages at that.

And movies are made in around 6-7 languages... beat that =)
