Even though this doesn't belong in the History category, it belongs in the Music category, I will answer you. I really don't know what happened to the "almighty" Meat Puppets, my guess is they still and always will play music. I have been a fan since I heard their first EP and LP on SST, and even their second LP on SST. I had the honour of seeing them perform two shows (all-ages and over 21?) in Kalamazoo, MI in 1985. For their first set the HC kids showed up, and were expecting to slam, but the Meat Puppets just went through the motions, and played nothing from the first LP, and only a song or two from their second LP. For that tour they were promoting the "Up On The Sun' LP. The band had a much better performance for the older drinking-age crowd that night, and played numerous covers, and were joined by some of the Beat Farmers.
After the show I tried to heckle with the drummer for a T-shirt, and I used every excuse, and would not let my friend lend me any more money to buy the shirt. Since Derrick Bostrom would not budge on the price, I gave up. Once all the T-shirt customers were gone, Derrick came back over to me and said "Okay, I'll sell you that shirt for $5 now." I was suprised, and gladly bought the T-shirt. "Why didn't you sell it to me before?", I asked. He told me he didn't want to sell me the shirt for $5 in front of other people who were paying $8 or $10. A lesson I picked up, and used later in my life.
Here's to Chris and Curt Kirkwood, and especially Derrick Bostrom. You and your music have gone down in History.
