I just bought a house in Texas and found a bucket full of used motor oil behind my privacy fence in the alley. I called the city and they said it was my responsiblilty. I disagree and should call the epa on them, Could it come back and bite me. I think some of it has splilled on the ground and I dont want the charges to have it removed

well since the motor oil, technically speaking, was not on your property it would not be your problem. yet you should initiate a clean up. contact your local fire department and explain what you found. or just grab the bucket drop it off at a collection place and forget about the whole thing. the epa will not get involved into an issue as yours.

Clean it up the best you can and take the used oil to a Jiffy Lube or some other place that accepts used motor oil. Then forget about it.

Less BS, and a clean conscience.
Yes, do did the right thing, but this makes you wonder if it's worth it.

Just dump the bucket of used motor oil down the nearest toilet. That ought to get rid of it. That's what I would do. After all, these econazis love to shove their probes up your tailpiple every year or so, so that they can take a good whiff, to see if you can pass their automobile emissions test or not. Ask yourself: Do you like having a government probe shoved up your tailpipe, or not? If not, then just let them have it!
