Don't get scared. Many people, myself included, have experienced this type of dream. Think about what you are crying for in the dream and what it has to do with your life.
In my case it was due to a death of one of my children or a close family member.
Some dream analysts suggest that when you cry in a dream it is the release of emotions that are bottled up instead of being expressed.

This happens to me too much. I am having an impossible time with a break up I just went through. If I end up having a dream that is about "us" and what we used to have or it things ended up differently that was good- then I will wake up and have already had tears pouring down my face. Its like my heart wont allow my brain to let go and move on cause the more I try in life to not think about him or if i do something that would change my life (like try to date) the more these dreams happen.

Yeah, i got that feeling several times....i remembered that one dream it was about "my mom...is forcing me something....she is out of control.....i cry in my dream, then i also wake up crying..."
another one is .... "the image is quite blur" i remembered it well, because it happened on my first day trip to greece, at night, i woke up shouting and my friend was frightened by my scream and asked me what happened. She told me the next morning i was crying......The dream was: "a big accident and had killed many people.....an old man riding on a bycicle ..... as he is leaving me behind, i cry....(i dont know that old man)"
@~@ What do u think.....
My opinion is that maybe the dream contains some hints or something which i have to take a break to have some contemplation....i say that because, if a dream makes us crying and the images have nothing to do with our waking life, that might be 2 reasons:
1. some previous feeling suppress in our mind, through dream, whatever story is, we unfold that suppressed feeling, just to adjust ourself psychologically.
2. it foretells the future......something might happen in the future..
(that's all what i've got in my mind) :)

Yes.
In the dream, I am shopping with my Grammie as we always do. She comes down behind me in the escalator and when we reach the bottom, I realize this is a dream. I look at her as she goes to the beauty counter and my heart hurts so bad ( she died in 1999). I start crying out loud for her to come over to me so I can tell her all the things I never had time to. "Grammie!"
Now I am drifting farther away from her. The pain deepens incredibly and I just weep. I know I will never be able to hold her again, to see her smile at me, or see her dote on my children.
My husband was very concerned when I woke up as I had been crying loudly and woke him up.

Yes, I have had dreams like this and woke up and felt like my heart was breaking, I was so sad. Usually it is about something bad happening to someone I love...one of my children or my husband. But you remember the feelings of how much hurt you felt from the sadness for a long time afterwards.

I used to have those when I was younger. I still don't know why I would have them but normally I would cry in the dream because someone would take something away from me and surely enough when awaken I'd actually be in tears.

That happened to me just a few weeks ago. I had a terribly sad dream about my grandmother who just passed away a few months ago. I was bawling in the dream and I woke up bawling, covered in tears. That was the one and only time it's happened to me, but I didn't think there was anything abnormal about it. And I wasn't particularly sad about anything during this time either.

I get that sometimes, too, but I have a depression history ten miles long. Maybe you're just a really sensitive person, but maybe you had something bad happen in the past and are using your dreams to work it out....? If that might be it, then maybe you need counseling.

I have before and it was so gut wrenching. I could feel the emotion and exhaustion of the dream all day. I wasnt dealing with some sorrow in my life - the psych always has its say one way or another.
