who here thinks instant messaging is a waste of time? seriously, what are the pros, and what are the cons?

Well, I instant message because I'm so bored...
Pros
-even the shy kids can talk (like me)
-it's like a whole new person you're talking to
Cons
-anything you say can be used against you (I made a joke on someone, and now she won't even look at me)

Waste of time???? Ummm....yeah right. I use instant messaging so I can get in contact with people easily and instantly. I mean if I got to say something quick and fast all I got to do is instant message them. I can't really use my phone alot because it is either dead or needs to be charged. I mean instant messanging is fun and really effective, I don't see how it wastes time. Either way you are going to waste time, on phone, in person, or where ever.
Yes there are downsides, like internet connection and things like that...but other than that I think it is a life saver!

It may be instant but because it's so convenient to say something, our words in the Human Interaction Stock Exchange are getting cheap and people are just getting lazy. Yes, it's a waste of time.

I don't use it to chat on but I do help a lot of people all over the world and find it useful to send large files that are too big for the mail. I can't afford to call Singapore or Netherlands but IM makes it possible.
So no its not a waste of time.

instant messaging is kinda like instant coffee. It will get the job done but it doesn't taste near as good as instant coffee.

Well, there are 2 friends I really don't like talking to on the phone or in person. From time to time I IM with them and it's much more fun.

i love it. i moved about 3 1/2 yrs ago and i'm now finally chatting with people i haven't talked to in years. But i still talk to them on the phone. The phone is a little for personable. but i like it.

I don't think it's a waste of time, I just don't trust anyone anymore. I no longer use it, it's not safe.(believe it or not)
