The Great Black-Backed Gull (Larus marinus) has a length of about 28 inches. Its eggs are just over 3 inches long.

The Common Gull (Larus canus) has a length of about 16 inches, and its egg is about 2.3 inches long.

There are lots of excellent facts on British Gulls here:

Select the gull species and find the section headed Breeding and Survival - it gives all the details about egg dimensions and weight, clutch size etc.

I was walking through sand dunes on a beach and found a herring gull nest. There were some eggs on the ground. They were about an inch larger than chicken eggs. They are whitish with brown patches.
