For example, you are in the mountains and you see a mountain lion approach. You make eye contact with the lion, you feel a connection and the lion retreats without harming you.

There are many web sites devoted to just that kind of thing, just let the kids see any of it.

I was raised by a cat, does that count? I have also raised a cat myself, and have very cat-like tendencies. I have actually just recently discovered that some of the things I do are not actually human in origin, but cat. I am also very good with cats and can usually understand what they are saying.

edit: No, nothing like that has ever happened to me. Of course, I'm a city girl, so I don't get out to the wilderness often enough.

Many times. I love the turkey vultures; they're so free and mystical. There is also a connection with cats. Even the strays and feral cats have walked up to me to be petted (is this a word?) ever since I was a little kid. But the turkey vultures are magnificent!

My best friend doesn't understand the concept of "wild" animals. She loves them all. When she moved back to MS she and her husband were "thrilled" to find that they had a "pet" raccoon living in their yard. She started feeding it (really well) and of course they more accustomed to her the coon got the closer he got. One morning he was almost sitting right beside her and she was so excited. So close to nature. Problem was she wasn't peeling that banana as fast as he thought she needed to so he finally reached to grab it from her, she flinched and he bit her. One full regimen of rabies shots later she still thinks he's cute, she still feeds him but she watches him from behind the french doors in her kitchen.
