We are all products of our society, and our parents are are the ones who influence the most. If you have ignorant parents who preach their "values" to you when you're 4, you'll grow up ignorant. I'm amazed that I know intelligent, talented people that still have caveman claims that "all gays go to hell" and "taxation is a terrible con" and when I ask them why, lo behold they were raised to believe those things from conservative parents that forced those views on them (I'm not trying to scapegoat Republicans, this is negatively true of all ideologies, just look at children of hippies)

In a perfect world, we would raise our childern to think for themselves, think critically, and develop their own idea of morality without having to conform to what their parents think
