This may be due to no air circulation inside ur cabinet.....

When the is used for a long time with excessive workload(without idle) then it will heat up.other causes may be when overclocked....

Over heating is usually caused by poor ventilation. Make sure your computers vents are not blocked by dust. Also give your computer enough room to properly vent, make sure there is enough room around your cpu for air to flow. Proper room temperature is a good thing to watch for also, put several computers in a cold room and leave them running for awhile and they will heat the room, so make sure your room is not too hot. The reason over heating effects your computer is because of how the electrons interact with the conductors within the circuts. In metal conductors the more resistance there is to a current the more heat is generated, the greater the heat of a conductor the greater the resistance. This quickly becomes a problem and if too much heat is generated while a current is applied it can damage the conductor.

There can be a few common reasons.

1. A newly installed heatsink with thermal paste improperly applied.

2. Not enough ventilation in your case, could be insufficient fans or enough dust has built up to cause your case to trap too much heat inside.

3. A hot day.

4. Processor may be malfunctioning. Could be from overclocking, but if its not something you do, then its probably not this.

My best bet is that it is #2, try cleaning out your case if it is really dirty or remove the heat sink and apply a new layer of thermal paste. If you don't know how to use thermal paste, take it to a friend who knows how to do it or have a professional do it. It could cause serious damage to your processor if incorrectly applied.

Most of what I read above is mainly true. You want to open your case and check to see if your CPU fan is full of crud if it is it is time to clean it or replace it. If you decide to replace the stock fan and you have a recent CPU Arctic Cooling has some good inexpensive fans. This is the Intel Socket 775 version:

and the AMD version:

If you need a fan for an older socket or for an older CPU you can browse here:

The heatsink fan of your processor may not be properly cooling your processor. It may be due to a defective fan or due to improper mounting/installation.Try reinstalling the heatsink fan. Put thermal paste between heatsink and processor if there is none.

Or it could just be due to a very low setting of the temperature shutdown in BIOS.

You probably have a defective FAN. Get a new one or add another. Some PC owners say they have three or more fans in their CPU box to keep things cool.
