It happens with any water.....but more often with tap water. I just don't understand why water does this and not soda or tea or coffee....why is that?

You probably are not getting indigestion from the water.. Most likely you are filling up your stomach where there is acid and maybe some food being digested. You might have a hiatal hernia that over flows - backs up your esophagus and brings up the acid with in turn give you indigestion.

You also might be swallowing air along with your water and you have gas bubbles that come up your esophagus

Talk to your doctor about this.

It depends on where you get your water from, it is tap water or purified water? Tap water can come from rivers, streams, creeks, or lakes, and lots of times it has algae in it which is a known allergen. I used to get awful indigestion from water and it turned out to be green algae it would hit me summertime mostly, I drink the bottled water in summer now and am good. You might want to try that and see if it helps. If it's not the water, you might have excess stomach acid and need to be on some meds for it or gallbladder problems, or may have just really irritated your stomach. Try some peppermint candies and if that doesn't work, antacids but in liquid form, works faster than tablets.

I guess it is not the awater that gives indigestion. first of all, there is nothing to digest. I think the quality of water is the one that gives you bad tummy. If the water you took contained ecoli bacteria. that definitely gave you not only a bad tummy but really very seriously bad stomach condition.

You don't say, but are you drinking TAP WATER? Some tap water is really bad and fully of nasty chemicals.

I was in Beverly Hills and ran out of water. I filled my water bottle with tap water and got cramps. It was bad, and they are supposed to have good water.

Remember Erin Brockovic? That was tap water.
