There are a number of simple steps you can take to help your cut flowers last longer: When first cutting the stems of your flowers, use a very sharp knife and cut the stems an angle of about 45 degrees. By doing this you will not crush the vessels which draw the water up the stems. Always keep the water level topped up so your stems do not become dry. Be sure to add the flower food to the water. If you have no flower food, make your own using half a teaspoon of sugar, the same ammount of lemon juice or vinegar and again half a teaspoon of light bleach for each litre of water. Fresh flowers last longest when they are below room temperature. Keeping flowers in the refridgerator would be pointless because they couldnt be seen, but try to place them in a cool spot. Never place your fresh flowers on top of a refrigerator, or beside a radiator or heating vent. where there might be a warm draft.

Tulips don't last that long anyway, but I have found adding a tablespoon of bleach to any flower water seems to make them last longer in general. Worth a try!

With a very sharp knife, cut an inch or so off the stems underwater. (Avoids crushing the stem and closing it up, also lets the fresh cut suck up more water).
Change the water every day and drop an aspirin in it. (Don't know what it does but it works).

Put a few copper cents in there,
Cut the end in a til, not straight, but sideways,
Change the water.
