Intel pentium 4 chips run on socket 478 motherboard where core 2 duo run on socket 775.
So to change to that chip you will also have to change your motherboard and heatsink fan

well the most important thing is to check
that the motherboard u have is compatible with intel core 2 duo processor
if the things it work then u cannot replace it
but if it is compatible then it would work
well in most of the cases the changing the processor would not work, better check out your mother board

Assuming the Pentium 4 is in LGA775 format, it may be possible on very recent production boards but unlikely in older motherboards.
The BIOS of the old motherboards typically support up to Pentium D dual cores only.

I would not recommend it. If you want to have a dual core 2 duo processor you will have to get a motherboard that will support it as well.
