80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently regarding MY purpose:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Not sure yet, at the moment I'm just trying to build up as many interesting (good or bad) memories as possible so if i end up old and lonely and abandoned by society like a lot of elderly people I can just revisit all the times I've had and think about all the stuff I should have thought about at the time. So I suppose thats the reason for mine, although I should probably start looking for some more short term reasons in the mean time.

The purpose of my life is to Live Every Second to the Fullest. Peace, Joy, Happiness, as well, as misery, pain, and suffer ring. I LIVE and Participate in My Own Life. What someone else does is not of my Concern. My Purpose Exactly== I am, therefore I Live. I have only one Rule..... I try to treat people the Same Way that I would Like to Be Treated. And, you know, I don't have a Lot of problems. My Goal is to be Myself at all times. Only one face that Shows All of the time.

Been trying to figure this out for a while now. Even more so after i had a daughter at 38 that wasn't really planned. Part of me beliefs in destiny. But in a chaotic way. So, for as little i have achieved by the standards of society, i must have done something right to be granted offspring as it were.
I think my purpose was to learn, to experiment, to fail and to be given a change to pass on what i have learnt over the years through genetics by the gift of a daughter. Now my purpose is to find some balance for myself whilst seeing the gift to it's maturation. Wish me luck.

How can any one person truly answer that? How many people genuinely believe for themselves that they know what their life is for, their destiny (and even the religious believers who believe in their own choice of religion and its' teachings, those aren't their own ideas per se, more the ideas they're brought to believe).

Truth be told, I'm not sure anyone can genuinely answer that for themselves, as I believe nearly every single person is just "recycling" the things they have heard in their lives and sometimes adding a new "spin" on it to "make it their own".

However, I'm sure most of us have an idea what we would like our lives' purpose to be, but that doesn't mean it is a definite in any respect.

Ironically enough, I actually feel I am here to learn what my purpose is in life, to find what I am perhaps "meant to be". And I don't think I'm even half way there yet to be honest.

But that's me and my opinions for you though. In the meantime though I feel I just have to make the most of my life as it is and enjoy what I have.

Toodles

The purpose of my life is to experience joy in as many different forms as possible. You can join in if you wish, though that might then be said to be a general situation and that is so confusing, ain`t it?

Had a life threatening illness and spiritual experiences during this time. It seemed that the spirit, God, was more interested in my survival than anything else. Not religion, enlightenment or attainment but simple survival. So, I would say my primary purpose is to survive. I think I need to survive to experience life and that is important to God. Haven't quite worked out why it's so important to experience a physical life.

procreate an individual who will keep my DNA in the universe until we make it to the next Home Base :)

I made her already :) BTW :)

so i guess I'm retired except for the investing in her spiritual, mental, physical, social and financial well being. In other words provide her with tools to survive and pass on to her DNA sample :) that i can't wait to spoil!

I do like giving and i guess If i hang out long enough to give back to society, that also gives me purpose. I've been given so much! I have to share!

It is to exercise the flow of life as with respect to the world Im living.... there are rules to follow....and to live, I should be governed with the rules.

in the scientific rule...I should live with the corect system of my body....and to be healthy I should have to follow the scientific methods of living.being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to environment through changes originating internally.

since i am a member of the diverse array of living organisms can be found in the biosphere on Earth. I should have to live what the biosphere has to offer as food. Organisms – like plants, animals, fungi, protists, archaea and bacteria, and adapt to their environment in successive generations.

In my philosophy in life....I should make the most of my life. make it sucessfull and live in a well quite comfortable surroundings and well ordered community and that is by starting fro my own self....as the basic unit of the society... the progress depends on us. if most individual were good then it follows the goodness to the community and the society as a whole.

Aside from giving a lyrical or philosophical response, to know one's purpose entails a most high endeavor. It can be known, but its origin comes from out of an all but inconceivably high plane. Therefore, I do stand down from hosting an answer.
