actually there are 4 planets that are visible in the april sky. Venus is just one of them. you can also view mars, jupiter and saturn. Saturn is important to watch as the planets rotation is making the rings so that soon you won't be able to see them as they will be head on with our line of sight.

That's Venus.
It's bright characteristics comes from its Albedo of .76, or reflective capability of 3/4 of the Sunlight that hits it.
