Hi - we renovated our bathroom and toilet recently and removed the doors. We filled, sanded and painted them, then added new hinges and door handles. The problem in now the doors won't close properly. My husband has removed them, planed wood off, chiselled new rebates and still no luck!
My thinking is either the hinge os new and stiff - does it need a lubricate? OR the new screws he put on are too long and the heads are causing the door not to close. Any help any of you woodworkeres or DIYERs can give will be most appreciated. Door is hung level, but simply won't swing enough to close. Thanks!

sounds like the hinges are opening the wrong way and are binding. if he is finding that the screws aren't going flush into the recess on the hinge plate, the recess might be on the other side of the plate. i've seen it done before. he is using flat head screws, isn't he? the ones that came with the hinges? his best bet is to remove the lower hinge from the jamb and the door, and check the other side of it. good luck, hope it's this simple.

Oil in a hinge could be an argument, yet you will possibly nonetheless want gravity or a draft to pass the door. i visit think of the door is a hollow door no longer a reliable door, a loose hinge screw could reason an imbalance interior the load and allow gravity to tug a door till at last it closes, the door jam could be crooked, you probably did say it became an older domicile, if the jam isn't sq.,plumb and point the door could swing simply by gravity. i come across that some circumstances the finest answer is the splendid answer, is there an air vent blowing on the door? or a draft from a window? certainly i might could see it to furnish an actual answer. reliable success. and that i do no longer think of its ghosts, they opt to slam doorways no longer slowly close them. : )

See if the door hinge is hitting the wall hindge if the screws are to long and not snug in the slots it will cause it not to fit. or you might have to shim the hindge one way or the other it is probelly the bottom try a shim

If everything you said was accurate then the only thing I can think of is the hinges are set up wrong (backward) recheck them.

Did you check the hinges to be sure they are installed correct?
