for those that would know how to figure this out... i have a compaq presario S5100NX (all is stock parts) and im looking for a new processor does nebody know wut type of chipset socket it has?

Here is how HP says to determine your processor type:

Processor Brand Intel
Processor Socket Type mPGA478
Processor Family P4 and Celeron (Willamette, Northwood)
Proc. Front Side Bus Freq. 400 MHz
Chipset Name 845GL

It will probably take a Pentium 4 Northwood 2.4GHz. Anything higher, I'm not sure what the bios is capable of recognizing.

I believe it was a socket 478 celeron. You should be able to put a Pent. 4 in there with no problem - old technology however - but anything is better then that dog celeron.
