i had a blackout recently and my computer shuts down. after it restarts, the quality of my wallpaper changed for the worse. how do i get back to the usual?? those desktop icons are ugly because the words are in boxes of the normal desktop colour, how do i make the boxes transparent so that i only have the words against the wallpaper??

The first and easiest is to run SYSTEM RESTORE and choose a date just before your blackout.
You may already know how to do but I'll put it in anyway:
START button / PROGRAMS / ACCESSORIES / SYSTEM TOOLS / SYSTEM RESTORE.
Hope this fixes the problem.

When everything is all said and done and you have your computer back up, go out and buy yourself a UPS. You can get a good unit for under $75 with more than enough capability.
